How to raise your mood with a “Groovy Kind of Love”.
The girl who used to sit in front of me in the class at junior high sang this one Phil Collins’ song a lot. Back then, Phil Collins was very famous, and my friend might be in love. I don’t know, I never asked her, but latter on I found this song is pretty uplifting too.
It’s a very simple song. Some of you might know this song already, so let’s sing along.
When I’m feeling blue
We all have our ups and downs in our life. Of course there were some happy times to enjoy, but there were also times when you feel so drained and burned out while everything and everyone around seems like doing their best to demoralize you, and realizing that you’re feeling so down without knowing what to do can make you feel even worse. But, wait! You always can do something about it!
All I have to do
Is take a look at you
Grab a mirror. Look into it and say, “All I have to do is….”
Take a look at yourself. Figure out whatever you can do to make you feel better and happier, whether it is a short term kind of happiness or best if it is for the longer terms. Whatever you feel is your own feeling. Since it’s your own, then it should be under your very own control. You’re the only person who knows how to make yourself happier, so allow yourself to be happy, if that’s the way you want it to be.
Then I’m not so blue
“I wish, but not really.”
Yup. Trying the above step might not always worked as you wished for. Trying to find out what you’ve got to do to make things better during difficult times may seems harder than when you’re doing it with a better mood. That way, give your self a smile, another smile, and a lot more smiles while you’re looking at your reflection in the mirror.
“Do you think I’m crazy, that I’ve got to smile to my self that much or what?!”
Well, famous actors and actresses practice their expressions by looking at their selves on the mirror. They were paid to do so, and you (not directly though) might be one of those who pay them by buying the tickets to watch their shows. At this point, which one is crazier; paying others to give you their well trained expressions, or giving your self your best smiles through a mirror?
When you’re close to me

I can hear you breathing in my ear
See, what you need to do is just practicing one single expression for your own sake: Smile – and while you’re at it, feel it.
You can find anything you can think of to make you smile at your self. It can be all of the good things happened to you, every good sides of you, or the good things you do which can make you feel better. Even just a little bit better is already enough, because that’s so much better than if you couldn’t find anything to make you feel happier at all.
Finding all of the best sides of you and those things you do should make you love yourself more. And, just like what happen when you love someone else so much, loving yourself will make you understand yourself more too. That way, repeat this step along with other steps whenever you feel you need it.

After practicing the above part for a quite sometimes, you’ll come into a realization that on a certain way you know how to love yourself, just the way you are. Now, it is the time to make you love yourself even more, whether it is by updating your wardrobe collections, enjoying your favorite stuffs or anything else. It doesn’t have to be the same with others, because each person might have their own unique ways to do everything and living their own lives.

George Orson Welles (of course I never met him, but you can also find his biography and quotes online) once said, “We’re born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we’re not alone.”
Indeed, somehow I agree with his saying. Whether you’re single or attached, richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, better or worse you’re the best person you can count on till death do you and yourself part. But, understanding this fact doesn’t have to make you feel lonely, because when you love yourself enough, you can always count on yourself to make things up for you, and even for others.
When I kiss your lips
Oh, I start to shiver
Can’t control the quivering inside
I don’t mean to tell you to literally kissing your own lips. So far I think that’s an impossible thing to do. But when you’ve taste a sip and enjoy the love you give to yourself, you can see how valuable you are and how great the impact of the positive changes inside you to everyone and everything around you. So, be happy with the way you are and be grateful of what you’ve got while putting every ways you can think of to make things better into real actions.

My whole world could shatter
I don’t care
Loving yourself would make you understand yourself more, that you know how to be in charge of your own happiness without you need to wait for others to make yourself happier, and that you can be happy no matter what happened. Don’t forget to plant every single love you give to yourself in your heart, and see how it grows, flourishes and spreads to those around.
